President Donald Trump has cancelled the proposed visit of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad for talks relating to Iran.
According to Fox News, the United States president stated that Iranians may contact the United States at any time, and that the American negotiators will not proceed to Pakistan for discussions.
In media reports, it was also noted that the President said an eighteen-hour journey to Pakistan would not be appropriate, and that Iran could reach the United States directly if required.
He stated that all cards remain with the United States and will be used when necessary.
Earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt had stated that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were scheduled to travel to Pakistan for talks, and that Iran had made contact and requested a meeting.
On the other hand, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps termed the White House spokesperson’s statement as baseless, adding that reports of a request for direct negotiations with the United States were false, and that no decision had been taken to hold talks with Washington.
