Iran has granted exemption from transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz to certain friendly countries.
Speaking to Russian media in Moscow, Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali said that, for the time being, exemptions had been extended to some allied states. He added that the Foreign Ministry was making efforts to maintain the concession.
Jalali said that if the opposing side sought negotiations, Iran would also engage in talks, but if there was an inclination towards conflict, Iran stood prepared for war.
Earlier, Iranian Parliament Deputy Speaker Hamid Reza said in a statement that Iran had received its first revenue from toll tax imposed on the Strait of Hormuz.
According to US media reports, Reza said the amount had been deposited into the central bank’s account. The reports added that the deputy speaker did not provide further details regarding the source or method of collection of the revenue.
