US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning about Iran’s economic condition, claiming the country is losing hundreds of millions of dollars daily due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a series of posts on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described Iran as “financially ruined” and desperate to reopen the critical shipping route.
Trump stated that Iran is losing approximately $500 million per day as a direct result of the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, Tehran is urgently seeking to reopen the passage to resume oil exports and stabilize its economy.
He emphasized that Iran’s leadership is under pressure, claiming the country is “starving for cash” and struggling to sustain basic financial operations.
Claims of unpaid military
The US president also alleged growing unrest within Iran’s institutions. He said that military and police forces are complaining about not receiving salaries, pointing to deepening financial distress.
Trump further claimed that Iran’s “core power,” including its navy and air force, has been completely destroyed, although no independent verification of these claims was provided.
Strait of Hormuz under US control
Trump asserted that the Strait of Hormuz is currently under US control, reinforcing his stance that the blockade is effectively shutting down Iran’s key revenue stream.
He added that Iran publicly claims to support closing the strait only to “save face,” while privately pushing for it to be reopened immediately.

In a more aggressive tone, Trump revealed that intermediaries had approached him days earlier, conveying Iran’s willingness to reopen the strait.
However, he warned that any move to reopen the route would eliminate chances of a deal with Iran, unless the US takes drastic military action, including targeting the country’s leadership.
Trump also reiterated his broader criticism of Tehran, saying Iran has taken advantage of every previous US president except him. He framed the current blockade as a decisive shift in US strategy, aimed at exerting maximum economic pressure on Iran.
Impact on global energy and geopolitics
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, handling a significant portion of global energy shipments.
Any prolonged disruption or escalation in control over the waterway could have far-reaching consequences for global oil markets, regional stability, and international trade.
These posts come a few hours after Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran.

In a previous statement on Truth Social, Trump said the planned strike against Iran had been postponed for the time being at the request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, to allow the Iranian leadership and its representatives to present a joint proposal.
He said the ceasefire would remain in place until Iran submits its proposal and negotiations reach a conclusion. He added that the American military had been instructed to maintain the blockade against Iran and remain fully prepared in all other matters.
He said the Iranian government was facing severe internal divisions, which he termed as not unexpected.
