Political activity has intensified in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of the Senate by-election on a general seat vacated following the disqualification of Murad Saeed.
The by-election is scheduled for April 23, with candidates from major opposition parties, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), Pakistan Muslim League (N), and Pakistan Peoples Party, having submitted their nomination papers.
According to sources, the three opposition parties are in talks to field a single consensus candidate against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Consultations among parliamentary leaders have intensified in recent days.
JUI-F is reportedly pushing for Maulana Abdul Haseeb as the joint opposition candidate, while backing from both the PPP and PML-N is considered likely, though a final decision is yet to be announced.
