A key meeting on the situation in Iran took place in the Situation Room under the chairmanship of US President Donald Trump, where deliberations focused on developments in the Middle East.
US Vice President JD Vance was also present at the meeting, having earlier led the American delegation in the Islamabad talks, and is expected to lead forthcoming negotiations.
According to a news agency, discussions in the Situation Room covered the evolving situation in the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing dialogue with Iran.
The meeting occurred at a time when the 15-day ceasefire period between the United States and Iran is set to expire in three days. President Trump had earlier indicated that a deal was expected within the week; however, a new date for talks has yet to be settled.
Alongside the vice president, the US Secretary of State, Secretary of Defence and Secretary of the Treasury attended. The White House Chief of Staff, Witkoff, the CIA director, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Dan Kane were also among those present.
