Washington has agreed to release $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets, while Iran will relinquish its enriched uranium in return, according to US media reports.
American media has claimed that fresh progress has been made in talks between the United States and Iran. According to details, Washington has shown willingness to release the frozen Iranian funds, with the understanding that Tehran will step back from its stockpile of enriched uranium.
US media reported that differences remain over the handling of the uranium and the duration for which Iran’s nuclear programme would be halted.
It may be recalled that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that, following a ceasefire in Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz is being opened for commercial shipping. He said the waterway will remain fully open for the remaining days of the ceasefire, adding that routes for commercial vessels have already been identified.
