Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for hosting crucial peace talks between Iran and the United States.
The appreciation came during a telephone call highlighting Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role.
During the call, Meloni congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on successfully hosting peace talks in Islamabad.
She acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating ceasefire negotiations and promoting dialogue between key global players.
Sharif, in response, welcomed the joint statement issued by Italian and European leaders supporting ongoing peace initiatives.
Shared concerns over Lebanon crisis
Both leaders also discussed the worsening situation in Lebanon.
They expressed serious concern over the ongoing conflict and agreed on the need for coordinated international efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore stability.
Pakistan’s role in bringing Iran and the US to the negotiating table has drawn widespread international recognition.
Emmanuel Macron, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Friedrich Merz, and Christian Stocker all contacted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to congratulate him.
They also extended their best wishes for the success of the Islamabad peace talks.
Calls for peace and regional stability
During conversations with these leaders, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need for an immediate end to violence and bloodshed to ensure lasting peace in the region.
The Emir of Qatar praised Pakistan’s diplomatic success, while Bahrain’s leadership described the Iran-US ceasefire as a positive step towards long-term stability.
Germany and Austria also appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts, recognizing Islamabad’s role in easing tensions.
Meanwhile, Nawaf Salam contacted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting the heavy loss of life caused by Israeli attacks.
He requested Pakistan’s cooperation in helping to immediately halt the attacks targeting Lebanon.
