India’s senior politician and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor has acknowledged Pakistan’s role in the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran, terming it as a notable diplomatic success.
In an interview with India Today, Tharoor said that amid shifting global dynamics, Pakistan appears to be playing an effective role, while India seems to be lagging in the diplomatic arena.
He said it was surprising that Donald Trump had referred to Pakistan’s part in ending the Iran conflict, calling it a strategic setback for India. Pakistan, he added, is presenting itself internationally as a stabilising force, whereas India risks losing its diplomatic standing.
Tharoor said that attention within India is currently fixed on less consequential matters rather than serious global issues, terming this as a troubling trend. In a changing international environment, silence does not amount to wisdom but rather blind allegiance, and the time has come for India to review its foreign policy with care.
He added that the global order is shifting rapidly, and without timely measures India could face further diplomatic losses.
