White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced that the first round of negotiations between the United States and Iran will take place in Islamabad on Saturday.
According to the spokesperson, the U.S. delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, and will include Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. She stated that Vance has played a key role in addressing the Iran issue and will lead the team visiting Pakistan.
The spokesperson added that Iran has indicated it may be willing to hand over enriched uranium, while Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire agreement. She noted that the ceasefire was made possible based on 10 points proposed by Iran.
She further claimed that during “Operation Epic Fury,” Iran’s air force, navy, and military capabilities were significantly degraded, with strikes carried out on its nuclear and missile programs. According to her, Iran is now unable to supply weapons to its regional proxies.
The spokesperson said that 13 American soldiers were killed and hundreds injured during the conflict, adding that the ceasefire agreement represents a U.S. victory.
She emphasized that the red lines set by President Donald Trump remain unchanged. She also stated that Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and that more than 13,000 targets were struck, pushing Iran’s ballistic missile program back by several years.
