In a major upgrade for drivers, WhatsApp has rolled out new features for Apple CarPlay users, making messaging and calling more accessible while on the road.
The update, described as a “Major Update” by Meta, significantly enhances the WhatsApp experience inside vehicles.
Previously, CarPlay integration relied heavily on Siri with limited controls. Now, users get a more complete interface designed for ease and safety.
The latest update introduces clearly organized tabs, including:
- Recent Calls
- Favorites
- Chat History
This makes it easier for users to quickly access conversations and contacts without distraction.
For safety reasons, typing messages is still not allowed.
Instead, users can:
- Tap “New Message”
- Dictate the message using Siri
- Review it as Siri reads it aloud
If changes are needed, users can tap the edit (pencil) button before sending. Otherwise, the message is automatically sent.
Calling made easier
Calling contacts has also been simplified.
Users can:
- Tap contacts directly from Calls or Favorites
- Use voice commands like “Ask Siri to make a call”
This ensures minimal distraction while driving.
The update comes as Apple expands CarPlay capabilities.
With iOS 26.4, Apple introduced support for third-party voice-based apps, enabling services like ChatGPT to integrate into CarPlay for conversational use while driving.
Similarly, Google Meet now allows users to join scheduled meetings in audio-only mode for safety.
The new features are being released with WhatsApp version 26.13.74 and are already available for users to download via the App Store.
