The UK Government has welcomed a two-week ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran, calling it a crucial move toward restoring regional stability and global trade flows.
In a statement issued on April 8, Yvette Cooper described the ceasefire as a “vital step” toward improving security in the region.
She noted that the agreement could help revive international shipping and stabilize the global economy, which has been under pressure due to rising tensions.
Talks and diplomatic efforts underway
The UK also welcomed upcoming talks between the United States and Iran scheduled later this week.
Cooper acknowledged the role of Pakistan and other countries involved in facilitating negotiations, highlighting ongoing international cooperation to ease tensions.
The UK has been actively working to support the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments.
Last week, British officials led discussions with more than 40 countries, emphasizing the urgent need to restore freedom of navigation for international shipping.
The statement stressed the importance of a swift resolution to the conflict to protect regional security and reduce the impact on living costs back home.
The UK urged Iran to halt activities such as mining operations, drone attacks, and any attempts to disrupt commercial shipping in the Strait.
