Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that both the United States and Iran have agreed to an immediate, global ceasefire following Pakistan’s diplomatic intervention, paving the way for further negotiations in Islamabad.
In a post on X, PM Shehbaz confirmed that the ceasefire is effective immediately and extends to all areas of conflict, including Lebanon and other regions.
“With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY,” he wrote.

Islamabad talks scheduled for April 10
The prime minister invited delegations from both countries to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, to negotiate a “conclusive agreement” aimed at settling all disputes and ensuring long-term peace and stability.
“I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad… to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes,” PM Shehbaz said.

He praised both sides for demonstrating wisdom and constructive engagement, adding, “We earnestly hope that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days.”
Trump announces suspension of attacks
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week suspension of “bombing and attacks” on Iran, describing it as a double-sided ceasefire.

“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir… and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
Pakistan’s mediation key to diplomacy
Prime Minister Shehbaz had earlier requested Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks to give diplomacy a chance to take its course and asked Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture.
