An overnight Iranian drone strike on a major US airbase in Kuwait has injured 15 American personnel, marking a sharp escalation in the ongoing regional conflict. Most of the injured have already returned to duty, officials say.
The attack targeted the Ali Al Salem Air Base, located about 37 kilometers (23 miles) from the Iraqi border, a critical hub for US military operations in the Middle East.
According to a report by CBS News citing two US officials, 15 American servicemen were injured in the drone strike carried out overnight. Despite the impact, most of the wounded personnel have since resumed their duties.
A representative of the US Central Command confirmed that a total of 373 American troops have been injured during operations linked to the conflict with Iran. Of these, around 330 have returned to service, while five remain in serious condition.
IRGC claims widespread strikes
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the strike was part of its 98th wave of coordinated attacks. In a statement carried by Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC claimed responsibility for targeting multiple locations across the region.
These included the Ali Al Salem Airbase in Kuwait and Camp Victory in Iraq. The group also reported strikes in Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv, Haifa, Petah Tikva, and Beersheba.
According to the statement, aircraft were hit at the Kuwaiti base, troops were targeted in Petah Tikva, and factories were struck in Beersheba. The IRGC further claimed that helicopter hangars were destroyed at the Al-Adiri base in Kuwait.
On April 6, Ibrahim Zolfakari, a representative of Iran’s General Staff of the Armed Forces, said Iranian forces also targeted US troops stationed on Kuwait’s Bubiyan Island.
He noted that these troops had been relocated from Camp Arifjan, another major US military installation in Kuwait.
