Recent offensive and threatening remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran have not only stirred global concern but also triggered sharp reactions within the United States, with prominent political figures questioning his mental stability.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer condemned Trump’s statement as the rant of an unrestrained individual, stating that the president was issuing threats of war crimes on social media and alienating key allies, thereby damaging the credibility of the United States.
Similarly, Senator Bernie Sanders described Trump’s remarks as dangerous and indicative of mental imbalance, urging Congress to intervene immediately and bring an end to the conflict. He noted that the war, which began a month ago, has already claimed thousands of lives and continues to escalate the risk of further destruction.
Senator Chris Murphy also issued a strong response, saying that if he were part of the cabinet, he would consider invoking the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which provides a mechanism to declare a president unfit for office.
In a significant development, Republican leader Marjorie Taylor Greene—once regarded as a close ally of Trump—has openly criticized him.
She stated that Trump has “gone insane” and that his policies are endangering not only American citizens but also innocent people around the world. According to her, the United States and Israel initiated the war without justification and are now facing its consequences.
On the other hand, Iranian Presidential Office spokesperson Mehdi Tabatabai made it clear that Iran would only reopen the Strait of Hormuz once war damages are compensated. He described Trump’s threats and offensive language as a reflection of frustration and anger.
