US President Donald Trump has said a deal with Iran could be reached by Monday.
According to Fox News, President Trump stated that he expects to succeed in securing an agreement with Iran by the next day, adding that if no deal is reached, he is considering taking control of Iran’s oil.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that if Iran does not agree, “everything could be destroyed”, and reiterated that he is weighing the option of seizing Iranian oil if talks fail. He added that he believes an agreement could be finalised by the following day.
The US president also said that weapons had been sent to Iranian protesters and Kurdish groups, adding that, in his view, the Kurds may have retained the arms.
Separately, Trump issued a stern statement on his social media platform, warning Iran of grave consequences if it fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He said that if the vital trade route is not reopened, civilian installations could be targeted and Iran would face devastating repercussions.
In his statement, he said: “Tuesday will be power plant day and bridge day for Iran. If the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened, you will be pushed into hell. Just watch.”
