Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik said that out of 20 vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, only two were destined for Pakista
He made these remarks while speaking on Samaa News’ program “Do Tok”, said that measures such as smart lockdowns and early market closures could be implemented in response to evolving circumstances.
Malik described the recent increase in petroleum prices as a “difficult decision,” saying it was necessitated by the regional situation. He explained that two oil shipments had arrived at previous prices, reiterating that the majority of vessels in question were not Pakistan-bound.
He added that the government had tried to minimize the burden on the public and had discussed targeted subsidies with the IMF.
He further stated that Pakistan is making efforts to promote peace in the region, emphasizing the desire for an immediate end to conflict and noting that the country is playing a mediatory role alongside other nations. He reiterated that smart lockdowns remain under consideration, along with measures to encourage public transport usage and enforce early market closures at 8pm.
Commenting on domestic politics, Malik criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), calling its protests “untimely.” He said a potential rally in Attock would be subject to security clearance, and that political dialogue is welcome, but no constitutional amendment would proceed without consensus.
