Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a major relief package aimed at easing financial pressure on citizens amid rising fuel costs and global economic challenges. The package includes free public transport and targeted subsidies for farmers and motorcyclists.
In a significant move, Maryam Nawaz announced that government-run public transport across all cities of Punjab will be free. Citizens will not have to purchase tickets while traveling on services including the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus, and Green Electro Bus.
The initiative is designed to provide immediate relief to daily commuters and encourage the use of public transport.
The chief minister also introduced financial support measures for the agriculture sector. Farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs100 per acre per liter of diesel to support agricultural activities and food production.
This decision aims to strengthen farmer protection and ensure stability in the food supply chain.
Relief for motorcyclists
In addition, the Punjab government has announced subsidies for motorcyclists. Every citizen with a registered motorcycle will receive a subsidy of Rs100 on 20 liters of fuel, helping reduce transportation costs for millions of riders.

She said the prime minister provided relief worth billions of rupees in a short period, making sincere efforts to protect people from economic hardship during one of the toughest financial situations.
The chief minister urged citizens to use public transport instead of personal vehicles in the current circumstances. She emphasized that such measures would help reduce fuel consumption and ease the economic burden on individuals.
Global crisis impacting Pakistan
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the entire world is facing a severe economic crisis due to ongoing war. She noted that Pakistan is particularly affected because of its heavy dependence on imported oil.
Reassuring the public, she said the government will not leave people alone in difficult times. She promised that as the global situation improves, further steps will be taken to reduce the economic burden on citizens.
Islamabad also offers free transport
Separately, the federal government has announced free public transport in Islamabad for 30 days.
According to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, citizens will be able to travel free on metro buses and other government transport starting tomorrow for the next month.
On the directions of the Prime Minister, all public transport in Islamabad will be made free of cost for the general public for the next 30 days, starting tomorrow.
