Saudi Arabia has announced relief measures for foreign nationals stranded due to ongoing regional tensions, extending expired visas and allowing penalty-free departures.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has confirmed that visas expiring on or after February 25, 2026, have been extended until April 18, 2026.
The decision applies to holders of all types of visas, including visit visas, Umrah visas, transit visas, and final exit visas.
Officials said the measure was introduced to support individuals who were unable to leave the Kingdom due to the current regional situation.
The ministry stated that visa extensions can be obtained through the Absher online platform. Sponsors are required to log in to their Absher accounts, navigate to “My Services,” then “Passports,” and select “Tawasul” to submit a request.
Applicants must specify the relevant department and service and upload the required documents. The extension will be granted upon payment of prescribed statutory fees.
Option to leave without fines
In addition to extensions, Saudi authorities have allowed visa holders to leave the country without renewing their visas or paying any fines or overstay penalties. Travelers can depart directly through international border crossings, and all procedures will be completed at the point of exit.
The ministry described the process as straightforward and said no prior arrangements are required for those choosing this option.
The Ministry of Interior has urged all affected individuals to leave the Kingdom before April 18, 2026. Officials warned that anyone remaining beyond this deadline will face legal action and penalties under Saudi regulations.
Authorities clarified that the new measures have been introduced in line with directives from Saudi leadership. The initiative is aimed at ensuring humanitarian relief and facilitating smooth travel for visitors affected by the ongoing crisis.
Relief for pilgrims and visitors
The announcement is particularly significant for pilgrims and foreign visitors who were stranded due to disrupted travel routes.
By offering both visa extensions and fee-free departures, Saudi Arabia has provided flexible options to help individuals regularize their status and exit the country without complications.
