Lebanon’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday it had withdrawn its approval of the Iranian ambassador’s accreditation and instructed him to leave the country by Sunday.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said the Iranian charge d’affaires had been summoned and informed of the Lebanese state’s decision to withdraw recognition of the appointed ambassador, Mohammad Reza Sheibani, declaring him persona non grata and directing his departure from Lebanese territory no later than next Sunday.
The foreign ministry said Lebanon’s ambassador to Iran had also been recalled, citing Tehran’s 'violation' of diplomatic norms and established practices between the two countries.
The move followed accusations by Beirut that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had directed Hezbollah’s operations during its war with Israel.
