Health experts have highlighted that adequate potassium intake can significantly reduce the risk of serious health problems, including a 20% lower risk of stroke and a 24% reduction in heart disease.
According to specialists, millions of people worldwide are unaware that they suffer from potassium deficiency. This deficiency not only increases the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes but can also trigger lesser-known symptoms that often go unrecognized.
Professor John Young of Tycide University explained that poor dietary habits, particularly the consumption of ultra-processed foods and high salt intake, are major contributors to low potassium levels.
Potassium plays a crucial role in the body. It regulates nerve signals, supports muscle contraction, maintains a steady heartbeat, and helps control blood pressure by counteracting the effects of sodium.
Experts warn that even a mild deficiency can cause muscle cramps, constipation, and headaches. Severe deficiency may lead to mental confusion, depression, irregular heartbeat, digestive problems, and breathing difficulties. If left untreated, it can escalate into serious health complications.
