Principle approval has been granted for the restructuring of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), with directions to model it on the China Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on the affairs of the Ministry of National Food Security and PARC. Shehbaz Sharif directed that PARC be developed on the lines of the Chinese institution.
The prime minister said a comprehensive plan for the restructuring of the agricultural research council should be prepared with a clear timeline. He noted that agricultural research plays a key role in the promotion of national agriculture and food security.
The meeting was informed that research centres operating under PARC would be consolidated into five centres of excellence, and that agricultural research would be linked with industry.
