Pope Leo has expressed sympathy with those who have lost their loved ones.
He said thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes because of the war. The Pope said a large number of innocent people have been killed during the conflict.
He said schools, hospitals and residential areas in the Middle East have come under attack.
The people of the Middle East are suffering the horrors of war, he said, urging the parties to resume negotiations for a ceasefire.
