National Resistance Front of Afghanistan leader Ahmad Massoud said that the Taliban had sacrificed the people of Afghanistan in support of terrorist organisations.
He made the remarks during a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the killing of Abdul Ali Mazari, former leader of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan.
Massoud said the Taliban had turned Afghanistan into a field of security and geopolitical games by providing safe haven to militant groups including Al-Qaeda, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Jaish al-Adl and Ansarullah.
Referring to Pakistani army attacks on Afghan territory, he said the present situation was the result of the Taliban’s reckless conduct and their backing of armed groups.
He said the Taliban stood as the central factor behind the present crisis as well as earlier turmoil in Afghanistan.
Massoud said the Taliban had provided shelter to the TTP and other militant groups, to Jaish al-Adl and similar organisations, to Ansarullah of Tajikistan and to Al-Qaeda.
“For years they have dragged Afghanistan into security problems and geopolitical games,” he said.
He said the war seen today stood as the outcome of such unwise actions.
