Senior Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nihal Hashmi has officially assumed office as the Governor of Sindh following a formal oath-taking ceremony in Karachi.
The oath was administered by the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, marking the beginning of Hashmi’s tenure as the constitutional head of the province.
The ceremony was attended by a wide range of political leaders, government officials, and dignitaries, reflecting the political significance of the appointment.
Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah attended the oath-taking ceremony of the province’s newly appointed Governor, Nihal Hashmi, at Governor House, Karachi.
During the event, the chief minister met Hashmi and congratulated him on assuming the office of Governor of Sindh. The meeting highlighted cordial relations between the provincial leadership and the new governor.
Murad Ali Shah expressed his best wishes to Hashmi for his responsibilities and tenure as the constitutional head of the province.
Other provincial leaders present included Murtaza Wahab Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, and Senator Waqar Mehdi.
Senior security and administrative officials were also present, including Additional Inspector General of Karachi Police Azad Khan, federal spokesperson Raja Ansari, and PML-N leader Ali Akbar Gujjar. Party workers and representatives from civil society attended, showing widespread acknowledgment of the transition.
Hashmi’s appointment had been formally approved by President Asif Ali Zardari, following a summary sent by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recommending him for the post. After the confirmation, Hashmi met with the prime minister, who congratulated him and extended his best wishes for his tenure.
Leaders across party lines, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, also conveyed their congratulations. A long-time member of the PML-N, Hashmi has been active in national politics for decades.
