Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that Iran, like other states, holds the right of self-defence under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
Speaking during a briefing in Moscow, Zakharova said attacks on civilian targets and infrastructure in Iran, neighbouring Arab countries and other regions were unacceptable.
She called on the United States and Israel to halt aggression against Iran and return to the negotiating table for a settlement of disputes.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed that all parties involved in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East must show restraint and sound judgement, abandon double standards and begin efforts to reduce tensions without delay.
Zakharova said Russia would continue its efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East and to resolve differences through peaceful means.
"Russia would also continue to promote its concept of collective and indivisible security in the Gulf region to ensure that the interests of all countries in the region were respected," maintained Zakharova.
