Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for an official visit to Saudi Arabia to address rising tensions in the Middle East.
The visit aims to explore diplomatic solutions and strengthen Pakistan’s ties with the Gulf countries.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, Prime Minister Sharif will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the current regional situation. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is accompanying th premier and has already held a telephone conversation with the Iranian Foreign Minister to review recent developments.
The visit comes amid escalating attacks on Gulf countries and Azerbaijan, which Pakistan strongly condemns as violations of international law.
Focus on regional stability and diplomacy
Spokesperson Andrabi emphasized that Pakistan’s approach highlights three key priorities:

Respecting the sovereignty of all countries.

Ensuring that international laws are upheld.

Promoting dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts.
PM also extended congratulations to Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, reflecting Pakistan’s desire for stable diplomatic ties in the region.
PM Shehbaz also spoke with his Lebanese counterpart over the phone, reaffirming Pakistan’s support and solidarity with Lebanon. The Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that Pakistan strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack on Lebanon.
Afghanistan war
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi emphasized that comprehensive measures must be taken regarding Afghanistan. He stated that it should be assured that Afghan soil will not be used to target Pakistan.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan has communicated to mediators the need for concrete steps against terrorism. He made it clear that until such guarantees are provided, Pakistan cannot be satisfied with the current situation.
Andrabi noted that Pakistan’s policy towards Afghanistan is outdated and needs revision, particularly in light of recent security concerns. He highlighted ongoing attacks originating from Kabul, including incidents targeting Islamabad.
The spokesperson also mentioned that Islamabad has already been under attack, citing an assault on an Imambargah as a recent example of escalating cross-border threats.
