Bangladesh drew first blood against Pakistan with an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the opening match of the three-match One-Day International series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
Pakistan, sent in to bat, collapsed for a modest 114 in 30.4 overs after a devastating spell from Nahid Rana, who claimed five wickets for 24 runs. The Pakistan top order offered little resistance as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Only Faheem Ashraf produced a meaningful reply with 37 from 47 balls, striking six fours and a six, while the rest of the batting line-up struggled against disciplined Bangladeshi bowling.
Rana’s five-wicket haul received strong support from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who captured three wickets for 29 runs, as Pakistan were dismissed well short of a competitive total.
In reply, Bangladesh reached the modest target with ease, scoring 115 for two in just 15.1 overs. Opener Tanzid Hasan struck an unbeaten 67 from 42 balls, an aggressive innings containing seven fours and five sixes.
Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 27 before his dismissal, while Litton Das remained not out alongside Tanzid Hasan as Bangladesh sealed victory comfortably.
Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr claimed a wicket each, but the small target offered little opportunity for a fightback.
Bangladesh now lead the three-match series 1-0.
