The Pakistan Meteorological Department has dismissed concerns about the possibility of ‘black rain’ in Pakistan, following recent reports about oil field attacks in Iran.
Deputy Director Irfan Virk told Samaa TV that a western wind system is expected to enter Pakistan in the coming days via Iran. While this system may carry dust and other particles that could affect air quality, Virk emphasized that there is no risk of black rain.
He explained that the oil released into the atmosphere due to the attack on Tehran’s oil field will disperse within 100 kilometers and will not travel far enough to reach Pakistan. “The particles will dissipate quickly, so there is no chance of black rain affecting the country,” he said.
Virk also noted that while the western winds could slightly impact the air quality index in certain regions, these changes are minor and do not pose any unusual environmental threat.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has instructed its regional offices to collect water samples from the rainfall coming from Iran for testing.
These samples will be analyzed to monitor any potential pollutants or environmental impact. The step is part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and maintain accurate weather assessments.
