A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the recent increase in petroleum prices.
The petitioners argue that the rise is unlawful and will adversely affect essential sectors across Pakistan.
Azhar Siddique of the Judicial Activism Panel filed the petition, highlighting that the government recently raised petrol prices by Rs 55 per liter.

The petition describes the increase as an “illegal and anti-people measure” and warns that it will raise costs for transport, electricity, agriculture, and food items, impacting everyday citizens.
Legal arguments
The petition contends that the government acted unlawfully by increasing petroleum prices despite companies reportedly having 15 days’ stock in reserve.
It requests the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the Ministry of Energy to present details of these petroleum reserves in court.
Furthermore, the petition urges the Lahore High Court to declare the notification regarding the price hike null and void.
