US President Donald Trump has suggested that after the ongoing war involving Iran, Washington’s attention could shift toward Cuba, signaling a potential new phase in US foreign policy.
Speaking during a White House event with Major League Soccer champions Inter Miami, Trump said the immediate priority remains finishing the war in Iran, but indicated that Cuba could soon come into focus.
During the event, President Trump said the United States wants to conclude the conflict involving Iran first.
“We want to finish this one first,” he said while referring to the war with Iran. After that, he added, “it will be just a question of time before you and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba.”
Trump also claimed that Cuba is eager to negotiate with Washington.
“Cuba wants to make a deal so badly,” the US president said while outlining his view that relations between the two countries could soon change.
Trump made the remarks during a ceremony honoring the Inter Miami soccer team at the White House. While discussing global issues during the event, he emphasized that the Iran conflict remains the United States’ immediate priority before any shift in focus toward other geopolitical matters.
Iran’s future leadership
Earlier, while speaking to US media, Trump also discussed potential leadership changes in Iran. He mentioned Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying he would not accept a leader who continues the same policies.
According to Trump, the United States would prefer a leadership figure who could bring unity and peace to Iran rather than continuing the current approach.
Venezuela and oil production
Trump also addressed developments in Venezuela, saying the country’s situation has stabilised. He claimed Venezuela is now earning significantly more oil revenue than before, describing the situation as improving.
The US president also praised Venezuelan political figure Delcy Rodríguez, calling her “a wonderful personality for the presidency.”
UK leadership and allies
During his comments, Trump also criticised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and expressed disappointment with Britain’s stance. He said Starmer is “not Winston Churchill” and added that he was surprised by the British prime minister’s behaviour.
Trump argued that allies should act more decisively in supporting US positions, saying military bases should be provided without hesitation when the country faces threats.
Trump’s remarks have fueled speculation that once the Iran conflict stabilizes, Washington could turn its diplomatic or strategic focus toward Cuba.
While no formal policy announcement has been made, his comments highlight a broader geopolitical strategy that prioritizes the Middle East conflict first before addressing issues in the Americas.
