Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim spoke by telephone this afternoon.
The prime minister expressed grave concern over the ongoing tensions in the Middle East following Israeli attacks against Iran and strikes targeting brotherly Gulf states.
He emphasised the need to uphold respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states as enshrined in the United Nations Charter and international law. He also urged all sides to exercise restraint, end hostilities and resolve their differences through diplomacy and dialogue.
Both leaders agreed that restoring peace and bringing matters back to normal remained of utmost importance, but this could only be achieved through maximum restraint by all parties. In this regard, they agreed to work together and maintain regular coordination of their positions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also briefed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on recent developments concerning Afghanistan. He particularly informed him of Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and to secure the country against terrorist elements in the region and beyond.
The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact on all matters of mutual interest.
PM expresses reservations over Israeli attacks on Iran in call with Indonesian president
Separately, PM Shehbaz held a telephone conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during which the two leaders expressed deep concern over the growing crisis in the Middle East.
The prime minister strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran. He also condemned the tragic attacks on Gulf countries.
Prime Minister Sharif apprised the Indonesian president of Pakistan’s diplomatic contacts regarding the situation. Both leaders stressed the need for all parties to exercise the utmost restraint.
They emphasised sincere and serious efforts to resolve matters through dialogue and diplomacy.
The prime minister also informed President Subianto about recent developments concerning Afghanistan. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days.
