US President Donald Trump has said diplomacy with Iran is now “much easier” following recent American strikes, even as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
His remarks come after the United States carried out attacks on Iran during ongoing negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Trump defends military action
Speaking to CBS News, Trump said he believes Washington is now in a better position to reach a diplomatic solution with Tehran.
“Much easier now than it was a day ago, obviously,” he said, arguing that Iran is “getting beat up bad.”
The US president has now twice ordered strikes on Iran during sensitive nuclear negotiations — a move many analysts say could undermine Washington’s diplomatic credibility.
Iran responds with attacks on US bases
Trump acknowledged that Iran had retaliated with attacks on US bases. However, he described the response as limited.
“It’s been less than we thought,” he said, adding, “We thought it’d be double.”
The comments come amid reports of Iranian missile launches targeting American military positions in the region following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which Iranian state media described as his “martyrdom.”
