Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the e-taxi scheme, distributing vehicle keys to successful candidates. The initiative aims to boost employment opportunities for women while promoting sustainable transport in the province.
Addressing the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the importance of the e-taxi scheme in providing respectable employment opportunities for women. She said that women in Punjab “do not need to be afraid of anyone” and that the initiative would generate an income of Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh per month for female drivers.
The scheme is part of the government’s broader effort to increase female participation in the workforce and create self-reliant entrepreneurs in the transport sector.
Subsidies and vehicle distribution
Maryam Nawaz announced that the Punjab government has allocated Rs 4 billion in subsidies for the e-taxi scheme. Female drivers will receive 60% of the down payment covered, while male drivers will receive 50%.

The Chief Minister also noted the province’s progress in green transport initiatives. She mentioned that electric buses have already transformed public transportation in Punjab and announced that the trackless train project will be implemented soon, further modernizing the transport infrastructure.
