The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert over possible flood situations caused by glacial lake bursts from March to September.
According to details, the rising temperatures may accelerate glacier melting, raising the risk of heatwaves and subsequent flooding.
Monitoring of glacial lakes continues in various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rapidly melting glaciers from March to June could trigger severe flood conditions.
Potential floods may cause extensive damage to local communities and agricultural lands. Populated areas in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Ahmedabad, Faizabad, Munjawar, Ishkoman Valley, Gilkin, Gulmit, Bober, and Rohand, are at risk. Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, regions such as Kumrat, Yarkhun Valley, Lasht face potential flood threats.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary movement near riverbanks and glacial streams.
