A severe snowstorm in the north-eastern United States has disrupted daily life, with strong winds and record snowfall leaving millions without electricity and forcing the cancellation of thousands of flights.
According to American media, more than three feet of snow was recorded in Rhode Island, marking a level said to rival records set decades ago. In New York City, nearly 20 inches of snow fell in Central Park, covering roads and residential areas entirely.
In Massachusetts, authorities declared a state of emergency due to the intensity of the storm and advised residents to avoid non-essential travel. Aviation officials said more than 5,600 flights have been cancelled nationwide, while operations at several airports remain affected.
Power supply has been severely disrupted, leaving millions of consumers facing hardship. Emergency crews are engaged in restoring electricity and clearing roads. Officials warned that heavy snowfall and freezing conditions may persist for the next few days, raising fears of further travel disruption and civic difficulties.
