Veteran former Pakistan cricketer Tauseef Ahmed has stirred debate by suggesting that young batter Khawaja Nafay was selected to play in the National Cricket Team due to pressure from Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise.
He said the decision was based not solely on merit but due to external pressure on team selectors.
He said the grade two cricketer was selected in the side due to pressure from forces of the franchise circles.
In remarks shared on social media and video interviews, Tauseef implied that Nafay’s selection for the cricket team was influenced by forces of PSL franchise teams, a claim that has fuelled discussion among fans and analysts.
Khawaja Nafay, who first gained attention after being picked for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 PSL season, has impressed with his batting exploits, notably scoring an unbeaten 60 off 31 balls in a PSL match. His rise from social media highlights to franchise cricket has been seen by many as a breakthrough story in Pakistani domestic cricket.
However, Tauseef’s comments have reignited broader debate about merit-based selections versus influence in player drafts and squad picks, especially as the PSL evolves with auction and draft reforms.
