The National Assembly Standing Committee on National Food Security has approved 13 development projects worth more than Rs16.94 billion for the Ministry of National Food Security for the upcoming fiscal year.
The committee meeting, chaired by Syed Hussain Tariq, received a detailed briefing from ministry officials before endorsing the funding proposals. Among the approved initiatives is a Rs280 million project titled Thar CMEL, aimed at improving and protecting livestock in the Thar region.
During the session, committee members also reacted with surprise to a recent misunderstanding in a Senate committee meeting, where the Thar CMEL project was reportedly mistaken for a camel-related initiative. Members noted that after a brief discussion in the upper house, it became clear that the project was not about camels but a community-based livestock improvement programme.
Officials emphasized that the approved projects are designed to strengthen food security and support livestock development across Pakistan.
