The Pakistani hockey team faced unexpected disappointment from its management in Canberra, but the Pakistani community in Australia stepped in with warmth and support.
Players were given medals and cash gifts, showcasing solidarity beyond official channels.
Community support
The Australian Pakistani National Association (APNA) revealed that before returning to Pakistan, each player received 100 Australian dollars and medals from the community. The gesture aimed to honor the players’ efforts and morale after the management’s lack of acknowledgment in Canberra.
“The players were very upset and disappointed with the management,” an APNA spokesperson said. “We made sure they felt appreciated by presenting them with medals and gifts.”
Reaction from association
The association expressed sadness over the hockey management’s conduct in Canberra. They noted that even before media reports surfaced, it was clear that the players had faced unpleasant treatment.
Along with the players, the management also received gifts from APNA, demonstrating the community’s commitment to supporting Pakistani sports talent.
After finishing the match, the team was invited back to Sydney, further reflecting the community’s respect and encouragement.
