At least 10 people were killed and 50 wounded in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley on Friday, including a senior Hezbollah official, security sources said.
The attacks mark one of the deadliest incidents in eastern Lebanon in recent weeks and risk testing the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Israeli army confirmed that it struck Hezbollah command centres in the Baalbek area of eastern Lebanon.
According to sources, a senior Hezbollah figure was among those killed, though Hezbollah has not yet issued a statement regarding the attacks.
These strikes follow repeated accusations of ceasefire violations by both sides since the U.S.-brokered agreement in 2024, which ended over a year of cross-border fighting.
Civilian impact and casualties
Security sources reported 50 people wounded in the strikes, highlighting the human toll of the attacks in the Bekaa Valley.
Lebanese authorities have repeatedly warned that broader Israeli actions could destabilize the country, which is already facing severe political and economic crises.
The Israeli military also targeted a site in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon, claiming it was a Hamas command centre.
Hamas rejected Israel’s claim, asserting that the location belonged to the camp’s Joint Security Force responsible for maintaining local security.
Regional and diplomatic implications
Israel and Hezbollah’s fragile ceasefire remains under strain amid these strikes.
U.S. and Israeli officials have urged Lebanon to limit Hezbollah’s arsenal, fearing that continued clashes could escalate into broader conflict across the region.
