Afghanistan, Pakistan and several cities in Tajikistan were shaken by strong tremors, spreading fear among residents who rushed out of homes and offices while reciting the Kalima.
According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale. The United States Geological Survey stated that the epicentre lay in Bazarak area of Panjshir province, Afghanistan.
The USGS reported that the quake struck at a depth of 90 kilometres beneath the surface, due to which tremors were felt in Kabul and other Afghan cities, as well as in neighbouring Pakistan and Tajikistan.
In Pakistan, tremors were felt in Sargodha, Kohat, Swabi, Peshawar, Chitral, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Parachinar, Landi Kotal and adjoining areas.
No loss of life or property has so far been reported. Relevant authorities are reviewing the situation.
