Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Washington on Thursday to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, convened at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
The visit aims to strengthen Pakistan-US ties and discuss reconstruction and humanitarian efforts for Gaza.
The premier is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi.
During the three-day official visit, Shehbaz Sharif will meet with global leaders and US officials to discuss bilateral relations and pressing international issues.
The Board of Peace meeting will provide a platform for member countries to pledge support for humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping, and reconstruction in conflict-affected regions.
Focus on Gaza reconstruction, security
Ahead of the meeting, President Trump highlighted on Truth Social that participating nations will commit $5 billion for reconstruction and humanitarian aid in Gaza. The summit will also announce plans to deploy thousands of personnel to ensure the region’s security.
The gathering marks a significant effort to coordinate international action in Gaza, emphasizing peacebuilding, reconstruction, and the protection of civilians.
