The much-anticipated biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is set to go on floors in March.
Actor Rajkummar Rao will portray the cricket icon, with scenes scheduled to be shot at historic venues including Lord's Cricket Ground and Eden Gardens.
The sports drama, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and backed by Luv Ranjan’s Luv Films, aims to authentically recreate defining chapters from Ganguly’s cricket career.
Sources close to the development say Lord’s — often referred to as the “Mecca of Cricket” — holds historic importance in Ganguly’s journey. As a result, the makers have decided to shoot at the real location to capture the essence of those moments.
Eden Gardens, another landmark stadium closely associated with Indian cricket history, has also been identified as a key filming site.
Grand vision for the biopic
According to sources, the filmmakers are keen to mount the project on a grand scale.
“Motwane and Luv Films are determined to bring authenticity to the narrative. Shooting at real locations was always part of the vision,” a source shared.
Permissions are currently being worked out, with the team planning to begin filming in March across Kolkata, Mumbai, and London.
Rajkummar Rao’s preparation
To portray the former Indian captain convincingly, Rajkummar Rao is expected to undergo extensive cricket training.
The actor will reportedly begin a rigorous preparation process to accurately reflect Ganguly’s playing style and on-field presence.
The film is set to explore not only Ganguly’s major athletic achievements but also his lasting impact on Indian cricket.
With two of the world’s most historic cricket venues serving as central backdrops and a seasoned creative team leading the project, the Sourav Ganguly biopic is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious sports dramas in recent years.
The combination of real locations and detailed preparation signals the makers’ intent to deliver a large-scale cinematic tribute to the former captain’s legacy.
