Pakistan has finalised a five-year roadmap to manufacture Made-in-Pakistan electronic devices locally, gradually ending reliance on imports and building a complete domestic electronics ecosystem.
According to official documents, Pakistan will continue importing electronic devices for a maximum period of five years. During this time, domestic manufacturing capacity will be developed in phases to replace imports with locally produced components.
The plan outlines clear timelines for each part of an electronic device to be manufactured within the country.
Cameras within 3 to 5 years
Under the roadmap, cameras installed in electronic devices will be fully manufactured in Pakistan within three to five years. This marks a significant shift toward higher-value and precision manufacturing.
Officials say local camera production will reduce costs and strengthen Pakistan’s technology base.
LEDs, LCDs within three years
The document states that LEDs and LCDs will be manufactured locally within the next three years. This step is expected to support the domestic production of smartphones, televisions, and other display-based devices.
Local production will also reduce dependency on foreign suppliers for core display components.

Battery imports will be phased out over three to five years, according to the plan. During this phase, Pakistan will develop local battery manufacturing facilities to meet domestic demand.
This move is expected to support not only electronics but also energy storage and mobility sectors.
Speakers, antennas, cables
All speakers, antennas, and cables used in electronic devices will be manufactured locally after two years. Officials say these components are among the first to be localized due to lower technological barriers.
This step will help create jobs and expand small and medium manufacturing units.
The roadmap also includes local manufacturing of AC adapters, aluminum foils, Bluetooth components, and other accessories. All types of plastic parts, screws, and related items will also be produced domestically.
Authorities say this comprehensive approach ensures that the entire supply chain shifts to local production rather than partial assembly.
Boost to industry, self-reliance
The five-year Made-in-Pakistan electronics plan aims to strengthen industrial growth, reduce the import bill, and promote technological self-reliance. Officials believe the phased strategy will allow industry to scale up without disrupting supply.
Once completed, Pakistan is expected to meet most of its electronic device needs through domestic manufacturing.
