Maulana Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi, the mohtamim (administrator) of Jamia Ashrafia, has passed away after a prolonged illness, leaving the religious and academic community in mourning.
Family sources said Maulana Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi had been unwell for a long time before his passing.
The funeral prayer of the deceased will be offered at Jamia Ashrafia at 2pm on Monday, where students, scholars and devotees are expected to gather in large numbers.
Towering religious, academic figure
Sheikhul Hadith Hafiz Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi dedicated his entire life to the teaching of the Quran and Sunnah and the promotion of religious values.
He was widely regarded as a distinguished Hadith scholar and a compassionate spiritual guide whose academic and religious services shaped generations of students.
PM Shehbaz, CM Maryam pay tribute
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hafiz Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi.
He said the deceased was a great religious scholar and that his lifelong services to Islamic education would always be remembered, adding that the void left by his death would not be filled for a long time.
The PM also prayed that Allah grant the deceased a place in the realm of mercy. He extended condolences to the family, the administration of Jamia Ashrafia, its teachers, students and devotees, and prayed for patience for all those grieving the loss.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also expressed grief over the demise of the Jamia Ashrafia founder. The chief minister extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family, praying for patience and strength for them in this difficult time.
Aleem Khan recalls lasting legacy
President of the Stability Pakistan Party Abdul Aleem Khan expressed sorrow over the death, offering condolences to the family and loved ones.
He said the candle of knowledge lit by Maulana Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi would always remain bright, and that his religious and scholarly services would continue to be remembered.
Religious scholar Mufti Muhammad Zubair described the death as an irreparable loss to the academic and spiritual world. He said Maulana Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi was a compassionate, kind-hearted and warm personality who left a deep impact on all those who knew him.
Maulana hailed for promoting interfaith harmony
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Maulana Hafiz Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi, and extended his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family.
The interior minister said that Maulana Fazlur Rahim consistently promoted interfaith harmony, unity, and solidarity, and strongly raised his voice against sectarianism and extremism.
He added that Maulana Fazlur Rahim’s invaluable religious services will always be remembered. Naqvi prayed that Allah Almighty elevates the ranks of the departed soul and grants patience and strength to the bereaved family.
