Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has said that the International Cricket Council shows a greater tilt towards India and must act as a body for all member nations.
He said the ICC is not the Indian Cricket Council, but the International Cricket Council. Afridi said the decision by the Bangladesh Cricket Board not to send its team to India was justified. He added that the ICC should now take a decision and shift Bangladesh’s matches to another country.
The former captain said cricketers want to play against one another and every country wants to host cricket. He said pressure now rests on the ICC chairman. Afridi said Jay Shah wants to promote cricket, but does not receive a green signal from Prime Minister Modi. He said the ICC must now take a decision.
It may be noted that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has formally announced that it will not send its team to India for the T20 World Cup. According to a BCB spokesperson, the decision was taken due to concerns over the safety and security of the Bangladesh team. An emergency meeting of the board of directors was held on the matter, and the decision was taken after consultation with the government.
The statement said that the step was unavoidable to ensure the protection of players and officials. It added that the Bangladesh team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current circumstances, and that the ICC has been requested to move the matches to another country.
