Business leader Arif Habib has assured employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) that the airline’s name will not be changed under the new agreement and that protecting staff while restoring profitability remains the top priority.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Arif Habib clarified that under the existing agreement, the national airline cannot be renamed. He said preserving PIA’s identity is part of the framework agreed upon, alongside efforts to revive the airline financially.
He said the foremost goal is to make PIA a profitable airline once again. He emphasized that turning around the airline’s finances is essential for its long-term survival and growth.
Employees to be protected
Reassuring staff, Habib said PIA employees will be protected as the airline moves toward profitability. He described PIA’s workforce as professional and capable, adding that the organization has strong human resources.
“The message to employees is clear: the future will depend on performance,” Arif Habib said. He added that those who perform well will remain part of the organization, reinforcing a merit-based approach.
Overseas Pakistanis and passengers
Arif Habib highlighted that around 14 million Pakistanis live abroad, while overseas Pakistanis and their families in Pakistan together number more than 70 million people. He said efforts will be made to ensure that Pakistanis prefer traveling through PIA.
He said PIA will continue to have priority in Hajj and Umrah operations, underlining the airline’s national and religious significance. Serving pilgrims efficiently will remain an important part of PIA’s operations.
Commitment to promoting sports
The businessman said promoting sports remains a priority for PIA, although restoring sports-related activities will take time. He noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board is pleased with the selection of Naya Nazimabad for school cricket.
He pointed out that Naya Nazimabad offers facilities for cricket, badminton, swimming, table tennis, football, and other sports. According to him, such facilities play a key role in promoting sports culture and youth development.
Arif Habib concluded that PIA’s revival will be based on professionalism, performance, and public trust. He expressed confidence that with the right strategy, the national airline can regain its strength and credibility.
