Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah has stressed that political stability in the country can only be achieved through dialogue, saying meaningful talks will move forward only when Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, and the PTI founder Imran Khan agree to sit together.
Speaking on Samaa TV's program 'Nadeem Malik Live', Rana Sanaullah said all political matters must ultimately be resolved through negotiations. “Everyone understands the importance of dialogue,” he said, adding that political parties should come to the table to move the process forward.
Rana Sanaullah claimed that political bitterness in Pakistan began with the 2011 PTI rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, which he said was supported by the establishment. He argued that after entering politics at that point, the PTI founder started “his own series” of confrontational politics.
He said he had never heard Nawaz Sharif using inappropriate language against the PTI founder. “Asif Ali Zardari also did not use wrong words against him,” Rana Sanaullah added, rejecting allegations of personal attacks by senior leaders of PML-N and PPP.
Rana Sanaullah highlighted that PPP and PML-N signed the Charter of Democracy, which allowed parliament to complete two full terms. He said this democratic continuity was a result of political maturity and consensus between major parties.
Claims against PTI’s social media
The PM’s adviser alleged that PTI’s social media operates like a defense institution, accusing it of running campaigns against its own leadership. He said such behaviour further deepens political divisions.
Rana Sanaullah said the prime minister had invited the opposition for talks several times, but dialogue could not proceed due to conflicting signals. He claimed the PTI founder conveyed a message of launching a street movement during a meeting with Uzma Khan.
‘Khan rejected talks’
According to Rana Sanaullah, the PTI founder clearly stated there would be no talks, adding that anyone engaging in dialogue would “not be from us.” He said PTI had to devise another plan for November 26, which led authorities to ban meetings.
Using a metaphor, Rana Sanaullah said, “If the adventure is not over, how can the journey begin?” He added that the “fog” surrounding politics would have to be cleared before meaningful dialogue could take place.
