Australia have announced a provisional 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be staged in Sri Lanka and India.
Mitchell Marsh will captain the side, with Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and Cooper Connolly returning after missing the recent T20 series against India.
Provisional Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.
Selectors have opted for a spin-heavy combination. Adam Zampa is joined by Matthew Kuhnemann, Cooper Connolly, and all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Short.
Australia’s chair of selectors, George Bailey, said the panel focused on players suited to conditions in India and Sri Lanka, although several squad members are managing fitness concerns.
“The T20 side has enjoyed a sustained period of success, which allowed the panel to select a balanced group capable of handling the range of conditions likely to be encountered in Sri Lanka and India,” Bailey said.
“Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are progressing well, and we are confident they will be available for the World Cup.
“This is a preliminary squad, and changes can be made if required ahead of the tournament support period.”
The selectors chose not to include a left-arm fast bowler. Mitchell Starc’s retirement from the format and an injury to Spencer Johnson led to the selection of right-arm seamer Xavier Bartlett ahead of a like-for-like option in Ben Dwarshuis.
Australia are yet to announce their squad for the three-match T20 series against Pakistan, scheduled before the World Cup.
