Pakistan’s economy recorded a contraction of Rs 761 billion in the fiscal year 2024-25, according to revised figures released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The country’s total economic volume now stands at Rs 113.93 trillion. The revised economic data shows a decrease of Rs 761 billion compared to earlier estimates, which had put the economy at Rs 114.69 trillion.
In US dollar terms, the total economic volume reached $407.9 billion, slightly higher than the previous estimate of $407.2 billion in October.
Per capita income updates
Last year, Pakistan’s per capita income in local currency increased to Rs 506,736, up from the earlier estimate of Rs 506,188. However, per capita income in US dollars decreased from $1,824 to $1,814. Officials noted that per capita income figures will be revised further after the 2023 census.
Statistics Pakistan will recalculate population and per capita income data for the last 10 years based on the new census estimates. These revisions are expected to provide a more accurate picture of economic growth, income distribution, and living standards across the country.
The Rs 761 billion decrease in total economic volume signals modest economic contraction, highlighting the need for policy adjustments to maintain growth and address fiscal challenges.
