Pakistan has condemned the recent incidents of vandalism and violence against Muslims in India during Christmas.
Responding to questions from the media, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that oppression of minorities in India is a matter of serious concern. He termed the recent incidents of vandalism during Christmas as highly condemnable. The spokesperson added that campaigns targeting Muslims under state patronage are ongoing.
He said that the destruction of Muslim homes and physical assaults in India have become routine. "The Mohammad Akhlaq case serves as evidence in which the state protected the perpetrators," he added.
"Such incidents have further heightened fear and alienation among Indian Muslims. The list of minority communities subjected to mistreatment in India is very long," he maintained.
The foreign office spokesperson urged the international community to take notice of the mistreatment of minorities in India and called for steps to protect their fundamental rights.
